Spinach in the Snow

Today is March 7 and I uncovered my fall planted spinach. The sun is out and the temperature today almost 40 degrees. This spinach was planted in late Sept of last year. We ate it through November at which point growth pretty much stopped with freezing temperatures. I made a feeble attempt at constructing a hoop house with a couple bales of straw and some metal fencing but..eventually the snow collapsed the whole thing and the plastic laid right on top of the spinach with snow on top of that. This picture shows after I shoveled about a foot of snow off the plastic and stuck a couple of bent garden supports into the soil to support the plastic better. I placed the fencing on top since it was just laying there anyway. I left the plastic off today while the sun was out but stretched it back over this afternoon as the sun went down and it began to get cold again.
